Crystal Beach

We have power! Yay! We were very, very, fortunate! Friday night we sat in the driveway with some neighbors and watched the storm come in. The wind really started to pick up and we could hear transformers blowing one right after another as we were plunged into darkness. We had 75-mile hour sustained winds with gusts up to 100 miles per hour. It was a scary night! The next day was the worst. It was like we were in a vacuum. Very hot and humid and absolutely no wind, but the neighborhood was great. The very next day people were clearing their yards, chains saws buzzing clearing trees from the street. Everyone pulled together! The top of one of our pine trees came down in the back yard, but thankfully didn’t hit the house. And part of our fence is down. There were people in the neighborhood with trees in their houses or across their cars.

Sunday my sister came over to tell me my Dad had power so we took the animals over and cooled off. We had water, no power and no phone service, cellular or landlines. So we didn’t realize how much devastation this storm caused. When I saw the news coverage of Galveston Island, Bolivar Peninsula, Crystal Beach and Orange County I was stunned. I couldn’t believe the damage. I also couldn’t believe how much damage was done north of us. We are about 50 miles inland and a town 30 miles north of us, 95% percent of the town is without power and some have no water. A lot of people are going through a hellish experience. And my heart goes out to them. My husband and I are looking into doing some volunteer work. At least the weather has improved!

I’m so thankful no one in our family was hurt and no major damage. I don’t know when I will be back to work, so I’m a little concerned about money. But other than that I think we came through this pretty well!
