Hurricane Ike...Calm Before the Storm

It’s funny a major storm is coming and I had the best night sleep I have had in months. This morning was a bit eerie. Gone were all the noises you hear every morning, but never really notice. People starting up their cars for work, talking to neighbors, kids walking to school.

We are finishing up on some last minute things, boarding up a few windows and bringing in the lawn furniture. It has been crazy here. Gas stations running out of fuel, supplies flying off the shelves and non-stop news coverage. Traffic was flowing smoothly for the most part, but they did have gridlock in some places.
I think everything was handled much better than when Rita was threatening to hit the area, but I can’t help wondering in the event of a really major disaster, if we would be capable of handling it.

I’m not looking forward to the electricity going out. Centerpoint Energy has reported 10,000 people are without electricity in the Houston area and the storm hasn’t even really hit yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that this won’t be as bad as they’re predicting, but as I look at the coverage out of Galveston I can’t help thinking we’re going to be in for a helluva a ride.

Being a South Floridian, I know this drill well...the chaos, the anxiety, etc. Hope you weather the storm safely...will be thinking of you.

The wind is really picking up and we have a lot of debris in the backyard. I don't think we'll have electricity much longer. But I'm keeping a stiff upper lip! LOL! Ugh! heat and humidity and no air conditioning, no fun!
