Finding the Right Chord

We sit in the driveway

watching this orange and purple sky

Neil Young sings “every junkies like a setting sun”.

Drinking whiskey from jelly jars,

I realize

you’re unaware of how much

I need you,

Sitting next to me,

strumming long forgotten chords,

sometimes I wonder what you see in me,

as I sing quietly “I’ve seen the needle and the damage done”

helping you along.

Smiling you join in “a little part of it in every one”

Day slips into dusk and

in this moment

we have struck the right chord.

I could visualize the whole poem - right down to the jelly jars. Beautiful piece.
