The Church Picnic

Coppertone tans
wrapped in
flowered dresses
dispense
tuna casserole,
slinging
catty remarks,
behind
sanctimonious
smiles

while
sweat-stained
shirts
dream
of cold beer
and the
last few
innings
Of the
baseball
game

and
stoned
choir boys
dropping
Visine
pass a
spliff
praying
their bag
Of weed
won’t be
found

oh, i do so love the title of this..

don't even get me started on how i feel about this...let me just say i loved, loved, loved it all... especially that first stanza. oh, i know quite a few of those... makes me wonder why they bother going to church in the first place.

Ok, I want to know what church picnics ya'll have been attending! lol!!

It's so sad but true about the catty remarks - I believe if you're going to go to church for pete's sake please support each other in those beliefs! I wish they did, but they don't...

The rest of it made me smile, Rose - I just hope their weed IS found. lol!
