In a battered desk
Lies the key in faded ink
To a broken heart

Wonderful haiku! I like haikus so much because they're so efficient...

Id it is said...

'battered', 'faded', and 'broken';
yet holding on to the 'key'.
The embers still sputter...?

Excellent word play!

such a poignant, pithy haiku. and it matches so well with the painting:

I wait lonely-ly,
Crying over your letters,
Will you come again?
