Time to Say Goodbye?

Such sincerity springs from your lips
But I never feel it in my bones

Dried husks of fruitless conversations
And soured kisses of unhappiness

Eyes’ stinging with the salted slaps of
I think I want to see other people

Years searching in drawers for Band-Aids
To problems that are not my own

Each day I detach myself a little more
It hurt too much the first time

But I have to laugh, that’s
Some talent you have

Never really committing
And always keeping me on edge

So, you’re contemplating goodbye,
Wow, there’s a shock

You wanted to leave me the first
Day we met, but yet, you’re still here

And when I hear you say it again
I just feel empty and give a listless shrug

It’s becoming easier
To love you a little less

So the next time you’re considering farewell
You may be surprised to find

I’ve already left...

Wow. This is some powerful verse. So well put. If it's your story...get out before more than band aids are needed...

there r certain experiences which rr best felt when u hve gone thru them. separation is so painful.... but when certain emotions keep coming again n yet again one starts preparing... when one is detached completely from the mind... its all over.i loved the last line .... ive been there.

Oh yeah, lovin' this poem! I've learned to love you a little less
with each goodbye -- uh huh.
Well-written, a natural voice that
is easy to relate to - flows.

Ouch! So true... so true... People really take each other forgranted. Nice powerful piece!

Goodbye is a painful word, and your poem takes it a level higher; it lends anguish, anger, and eventual apathy to that once felt pain.

Nicely stringed!
